Card games in Serbia

French-suited cards are used, with suits of hearts, diamonds, clubs and spades. For many games the 52-card pack is reduced to 32 cards by omitting 2's, 3's, 4's 5's and 6's.

Whist is played by four players with a 52-card pack. The game is similar to Oh Hell, beginning with 13 cards dealt to each player, reducing to one, then back up to 13: 25 deals in all. Trumps are diamonds in the first deal, then spades, hearts, clubs, no trumps, diamonds and so on cyclically. In deals with trumps it is compulsory to trump if you have no card of the suit led. The total tricks bid cannot equal the number of cards dealt. The score is one point per trick plus a bonus of 10 if your bid was correct.

Preferans is a three-player game played with a 32-card pack. It is similar to the versions played in other parts of former Yugoslavia.

Tablić is a fishing game with a 52-card pack, in which aces have a capture value of 1 or 11, jacks 12, queens 13 and kings 14.

Sedmice is a game played with a 32-card pack in which tricks are won by an equal card or a seven, closely related to the Hungarian game Zsíros, and also played in other countries of the former Yugoslavia.

Zandar Kaze is the local game of the Eights family, played with a 32-card pack.
