Max Euwe Memorial Tournament

The Max Euwe Memorial Tournament was an annual chess tournament played in honour of Max Euwe (1901-1981) from 1987-1996. It was played mainly in Amsterdam, the Netherlands (in 1990 it was played in Rotterdam). The tournament was usually a four-player double round-robin tournament, the 1991 and 1996 edition were ten-player single round-robin tournaments. The last edition of the memorial was held in 1996, mainly because the main sponsor Verenigde Spaarbank (VSB) lost its interest. In 1976, while Euwe was still alive, a Jubilee tournament was held.
